About us
SharpTeaching was born out of the ideal that "some of the best teachers of teachers are the teachers themselves". The problem with this is that teachers are often too busy teaching to be able to learn from their peers and the teaching environment is often not conducive to walking into each other's classrooms and regularly learning from each other.
Back in 2005 Micah Hocquard and I realized we could do something about this when we stumbled on the learning power of filming each other and sharing it with the children, the trainee teachers and other teachers in the school.
Many years later after this idea has been trialled and researched through CSI ONLINE the technology now catches up with this idea to make it possible to share expertise around the world in very simple, time efficient ways.

"SharpTeaching has now taken on a life of its own."

We continue to be a small team of dedicated educators and developers, teachers, trainers and designers, that work with hundreds of teachers around to world to research and develop online training resources that aim to be 'simply useful'.
As simple as "watch a bit, teach a bit and come back when you are ready for a bit more. Simplicity is a core element and one which underpins our 5 minute rule (all videos and tutorials must be 5 minutes or there abouts) because good teachers know how to be succinct, have found the crux of learning problems and have truly realized the greatest teaching ideas, in the end, are common sense.
Of course all this simplicity comes from years of action, research, trial, mistake, frustration and change. GEMs take time to be found and time to polish into their true potential. Even when teachers know they have got a GEM we still have to work hard to make it useful in an online environment. We are far from perfect, can always do better and thus we never lose site of the importance of learning. SharpTeaching could just as easily been named sharp learning.

Warm regards,
